Where is KL’s good coffee? Mostly near Bangsar. I asked AI to read 118,419 Google reviews of cafés around KL, and 6 in 10 specialty cafés turned up within 10 km of it.
What I found.
Eight things the reviews and Google searches showed, each with its chart. The charts are free to use with a link to this page.
1. Specialty cafés cluster near Bangsar.
490 of the 823 specialty cafés around KL sit within 10 km of Bangsar. Only 1 in 3 of all cafés do.

2. Coffee costs most in Bangsar.
Reviewers there wrote almost RM15 a cup (RM14.95, the middle of 10 prices), against RM9 in TTDI. Few prices per area, so take it as a hint.

3. A specialty coffee costs about RM12.
That’s the middle price at 218 specialty cafés, and 3 in 10 charge RM15 or more. At other cafés the middle is RM9.90.

4. Ethiopian beans get named most.
Reviews at 102 cafés name Ethiopian beans. Malaysian-grown beans, like Tenom, come up at 23.

5. 3 in 4 roast their own.
Of the 228 specialty cafés whose reviews say where the beans come from, 175 roast them in-house.

6. Almost every specialty café is one of a kind.
ZUS has 408 outlets around KL. The biggest specialty name, The Hub Coffee Roaster, has 9. Counting a café listed twice once, 714 of 817 specialty cafés are the only one with their name.

7. “Coffee near me” searches grew 4 times.
In Malaysia they went from about 86,000 a month in 2023 to 372,000 in 2026 so far. “Kopitiam near me” grew nearly 3 times, so the old favourites are searched more too.

8. Café searches grew fastest in Wangsa Maju.
Searches for “cafe” plus the area grew 2.6 times there from 2023 to 2026, and now run about 3,500 a month. Ara Damansara came next, at 2.2 times.

How I did it.
I searched Google Maps around the Klang Valley in October 2026 for coffee, café, specialty coffee and coffee roaster.
- 24,976 places came up.
- AI took out restaurants, kopitiams, bubble tea shops and big chains, and kept 11,383 real cafés.
- It read the reviews of the 8,462 cafés that had any: 118,419 reviews, about 14 a café, the ones Google shows first.
- A café counts as specialty when its reviews talk about the beans and the brewing. 823 do.
- Chains came from a brand list I checked by hand.
- Searches are Google’s monthly estimates for all of Malaysia. 2026 means January to August.

What it can’t tell you.
The numbers show patterns, not the truth about any one café.
- AI read each café’s top reviews, not all of them, so small differences are noise.
- Prices are what reviewers wrote, 10 to 26 of them an area.
- Google’s listed hours and prices can be out of date.
- Branch counts are Google Maps listings matched by name. A few may be closed or listed twice.
- “Within 10 km” is a straight line, not a drive.
- The data grows as new cafés are read, so the post’s numbers are a little lower than this page’s.
