What I found.
1. Basque is the new burnt cheesecake.
Searches for “Basque cheesecake” in Malaysia tripled since 2023. “Burnt cheesecake” fell by a third.

2. A slice costs more in KL city.
The usual slice is RM15 (from 244 prices reviewers wrote): RM16 in Kuala Lumpur city and RM13.50 around it.

3. Chocolate first, pandan before red velvet.
Reviews name chocolate at the most cake places (838). Pandan (260) comes before red velvet (205).

4. Birthday cakes are a big part of it.
772 of 2,810 cake places have a review about a birthday cake, and 778 about a cake made to order.

How I did it.
I searched Google Maps around the Klang Valley in October 2026 for cake shop, kedai kek, cake, cheesecake and bakery.
- 15,420 places came up.
- AI took out the places that clearly don’t sell cake, from their names and Google categories.
- It read up to 20 reviews a place, the ones Google shows first, and kept the 2,810 places for cake.
- Prices are what reviewers wrote. Searches are Google’s monthly estimates for all of Malaysia, January to August each year.
What it can’t tell you.
The numbers show patterns, not the truth about any one cake shop.
- AI read each place’s top reviews, not all of them, so small differences are noise.
- The list is by review count, not taste. A newer shop with fewer reviews can be just as good.
- Prices are what reviewers wrote, 244 slices in all.

What I do with it.
Reading what people already say is one way I find what to build.
