Where do KL drivers take their cars, and what do they say? I asked AI to read 39,625 Google reviews from car workshops, washes and tint shops around KL, then pulled every review since 2024 of 1,721 workshops and service centres.
What I found.
The charts are free to use with a link to this page.
1. Workshops get more stars than service centres.
The typical independent workshop gets 4.8 stars, the typical brand service centre 4.2. 1 in 3 service centres average under 4 stars (106 of 305); fewer than 1 in 20 workshops do (70 of 1,416). It holds among Google Local Guides and at places new since 2023. Warranty work and recalls go to the centre, so not everyone there chose it.

2. Perodua beats Proton at their own centres.
In service and repair reviews at each brand’s own centres, Proton owners say nobody told them what was going on in 1 in 5, Perodua’s in 1 in 8. Staff complaints: 16 in 100 against 11. At independent workshops the two are about the same.

3. Each car comes in for its own thing.
Of repairs and services in reviews that name a part: the aircon in 3 in 10 for a Myvi and a third for an Axia, against under 1 in 5 for all cars; electrics in 4 in 10 for a Proton X50. That’s what owners wrote about, not how often a car breaks.

4. Chinese cars: nearly 1 in 11 new cars.
Under 1 in 100 new cars in 2023, nearly 1 in 11 this year (January to September). At the showroom their buyers praise the car itself more than twice as often as other buyers; in later service and repair reviews, as often as Japanese-car owners.

5. Continental specialists cluster near PJ Section 51A.
Over half of KL’s continental car specialists (workshops where most reviews name a European car) are within 10 km of PJ Section 51A, and half the European brands’ own centres too.

The lists.
Ranked by Google Local Guides’ stars from reviews since 2024 (10 or more each), with a review in the last 30 days. Chains are left out; the town list keeps general workshops by Google’s own category.

How I did it.
- Google Maps searches around the Klang Valley in October 2026 for car workshops, car washes and tint shops; AI read each place’s top reviews to tell what kind of place it is.
- AI read 39,625 reviews that name a car for the brand, model, kind of shop, visit, part and mood; a second model re-checked samples of every label quoted here.
- Stars are the average of every Google review since 2024, for places with 20 or more.
- New cars: JPJ registrations (data.gov.my), January to September each year.
What it can’t tell you.
- Reviews show what owners wrote about, not how often a car breaks.
- People name the brand more when they complain, so complaint shares at service centres run high for every brand.
- Everything here shows what goes together, not what causes what.
