How to use ChatGPT for SEO.
What worked for me: AI gets what only the store knows, plans the page before it writes, and shows where every number came from. AI writes the pages on my 31 sites, and 733 reached Google's page one. Here are my AI writers' rules, cut down to 6 prompts and tested on 3 real stores.
From Search Console, every page on my 31 live sites, to October 29, 2026. “Page one” means an average spot of 10 or better over a week, shown 20+ times. The 39% vs 2% compares 503 articles that had a table and outside sources with 229 that had neither, on the 27 sites I had then, to October 9: a pattern, not proof of the cause. My article writers run on Claude, and my research agents on OpenAI’s GPT models, the family behind ChatGPT. My AI tested an early version of each prompt below as a fresh Claude chat on a real store’s pages, and the prompts were fixed where they fell short. They’re plain text, so you can paste them into ChatGPT.
Before it writes
Marketing was my weak spot, so AI writes the pages on my 31 websites. Most of its instructions are about what happens before the first word.
Give it what only your store knows
Give AI a topic and it writes what every other page already says. Give it your prices, your delivery times and the questions customers ask you, and it has something no other page has. When facts are missing, AI fills the gap with a guess that sounds right, and in my agents’ work the most common slip was leaving things out (is ChatGPT accurate?). One real shop in my tests gave three different delivery times across its pages, so it helps to pick one first.
Try this, if it fits: what do customers ask you that no page on Google answers well?
Ask for the plan before the page
A plan takes a minute to read and a second to fix. A finished page takes much longer to untangle. Headings written as buyers’ questions also match how people search, so a reader, Google or ChatGPT can find the one answer they came for. When my AI tested an early version on a real tea shop, a new chat lost the shop’s answers and would have guessed the gaps, like how to brew its tea iced. So the prompt now asks it to mark those headings. Those are the ones to fill in, or cut.
Try this, if it fits: which 5 questions would a buyer ask before choosing your product? Could each be a heading?
The page, then the check
What every page gets, and what a second AI checks before it goes live.
Answer first, with a number
Someone who asks a question wants the answer, not a warm-up. An answer that makes sense alone is also the part Google and ChatGPT can quote. The [number needed] note and the last line matter most: they show you where AI would have filled a gap with a guess.
Try this, if it fits: on your best page, does the first line under each heading answer it?
A table and a source for every number
A table gives a buyer something to compare. A source lets them check you. For each [source needed], I’d add a link to where the number really comes from, or cut it. My writers’ rule is that every number is a range, a named source or my own data, and anything else gets sent back. This is a pattern in my pages, not proof of the cause, but it’s the step I’d keep if I could keep only one. More on what Google rewards in does Google penalize AI content?
Try this, if it fits: could your page show a small table of sizes, prices or delivery times, from facts on your site?

Check it in a fresh chat
The chat that wrote the page thinks it did well. A fresh chat has only the page and the list, so it reads it the way a stranger would. Asking for the fix, not a rewrite, keeps the parts that were already good. When my AI tested it on a coffee roaster’s brewing guide, every finding was right: label headings, no table, no sources and a 17-word first sentence.
Try this, if it fits: could you paste your next page into a new chat with this list before it goes live?
Improve the pages close to page one
A page at spot 12 is already close. It usually needs a missing answer or a fresher number, not a new page. On that same brewing guide, the test caught 15g of coffee to 250g of water written as 1:16. It’s 1:16.7. Google Search Console shows each page’s spot for free (Performance, then Pages). For how long a new page gets before I judge it, see how to get on the first page of Google. Want this run for your store every week? It’s what my AI SEO team does for online brands.
Try this, if it fits: which of your pages sits between spot 5 and 15 in Search Console?
Want a page checked in 3 minutes? The free AI page checker at the end of this page puts your page next to the top 3 results for its search. It lists the questions a buyer would still ask, the one table to add, every number that needs a source, and up to 7 fixes in order.
What people ask.
Can ChatGPT generate SEO content?
Yes, if you give it what only your store knows and check every number. On its own it writes what other pages already say. AI writes the pages on my 31 sites, and 733 of them have reached Google’s page one.
Is SEO dead now with AI?
Not for me. Google has sent my sites 10,515 clicks so far, and ChatGPT searches the web before it answers, so a page that ranks on Google is a page it can find. A page that answers plainly works for both.
Which AI is best for SEO?
The one you give your facts to. My article writers run on Claude and my research agents on OpenAI’s GPT models. On the 27 sites I had in October, the same writer got over half the pages on page one on my best sites and under 1 in 10 on others. So the page made the difference, not the AI brand.
Did ChatGPT write your pages?
No. My article writers run on Claude. These prompts are cut down from their instructions, and an early version of each was tested in a fresh Claude chat. They’re plain text, so you can paste them into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.
Will Google penalize pages written with ChatGPT?
Not for being written by AI. Google says it rewards helpful content however it’s made. What it punishes is many pages that add nothing. More in does Google penalize AI content?
Your AI page, checked.
Paste one prompt into your AI. See a page you wrote with AI the way Google does, and get the fixes in order.
- One prompt for ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Just add your page's link.
- The search your page is for, next to the top 3 results.
- The questions a buyer would still ask after reading it.
- The one table to add, and every number that needs a source.
- Three things only your store knows, and where they go.
- Up to 7 fixes in order, each under 30 minutes.
Who would this help?
If a friend runs a store or a site, it takes one tap to send it straight to them.
